She has previously been a partner with two other national law firms and Associate General Counsel for Verizon Communications in charge of state and local taxation. Wilson’s practice focuses on state and local taxation, including state and local tax controversies, multistate tax planning, and the state and local tax aspects of reorganizations and M&A. Wilson is admitted to the bars of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Margaret Wilson is a founding partner of Reeder Wilson LLP, resident in its central New Jersey office. She has spoken at numerous conferences and is a frequent speaker for the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, the Tax Executives Institute, the Council on State Taxation, and the American Bar Association. Reeder has served as the Chairperson of the California State Bar's State and Local Tax Committee and on the Executive Committee of the American Bar Association's State and Local Taxes Committee. She received her BA in political science from Yale University in 1991. Reeder received her JD, with honors, from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1998 and concurrently received her MPP in public policy from Duke University. Reeder has also advised numerous clients on the state tax consequences of business reorganizations and federal/international tax planning. Key areas of focus within state income/franchise tax include: nexus, state conformity to federal income tax provisions, apportionment, composition of the combined reporting group, distinguishing business and nonbusiness income and applicability of state credit provisions_ In the sales/use tax area, she focuses on taxability determinations, particularly with regard to software and services providers, nexus and applicability of exemptions. Reeder focuses her practice on state and local taxation issues and has counseled clients on significant state tax controversy, planning, and compliance matters. Kim has been admitted to practice in Kentucky, North Carolina (inactive), and California (inactive).Ms. During 2018-2021, Kim taught Oral Communications at Rowan County Senior High School and led the speech/debate team to several state championships. Outside of the legal world, she was a faculty member in the Governor’s Scholars Program (Political and Legal Issues, 2017-2021) and at Morehead State University (Communications, Fall 2020). Her practice encompassed tax laws in numerous states and spanned corporate income taxes, sales/use taxes, employment taxes, individual income taxes and other taxes and fees.Īfter returning to Morehead in 2014, Kim continued to practice, briefing and arguing tax cases before the Iowa Supreme Court and California 1st District Court of Appeals. For eight of those years she practiced as a partner. For the next 16 years, she built a practice in state and local tax with law/accounting firms in New York, Washington, DC and, for 14 years, Silicon Valley, California. (with honors) from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) and Masters of Public Policy from Duke University. After graduation, she moved to Connecticut to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Yale University. Kim grew up in Rowan County and graduated from Rowan County Senior High School. Kim Reeder counsels clients on state and local tax issues arising in the context of filing returns or managing audits/litigation with state revenue departments and advises on administrative law matters.
